Dr. O’ Neill graduated from her Oral Surgery Specialist training with a First Class Honours. She was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, in Oral Surgery, the same year. Marie has a particular interest in the prevention of post- operative pain following oral surgery procedures, such as wisdom tooth removal, and this was the topic of her Doctoral Thesis while in Trinity College Dublin.
Dr. O Neill is a Consultant Oral Surgeon at the Mater Private Hospital Dublin, and the Bon Secours Hospital Dublin. She is a registered Specialist Oral Surgeon with the Irish Dental Council.
She runs her specialist Oral Surgery practice from The Institute of Specialist + Cosmetic Dentistry ( ISCD ), Mater Private Hospital and Bon Secours Hospital in Dublin.


What is an Oral Surgeon?
An oral surgeon is a medical specialist. It is a specialist area dealing with the various conditions of the mouth or jaws through surgical treatment.
Oral Surgeons undertake and intensive three years of hospital based training following an undergraduate qualification in Dentistry. Dr. O’Neill has completed numerous fellowships and has developed a strong area of interest in the use or sedation for patient comfort and multi-disciplinary planning to dental implant placement and restorative dentistry.

What to Expect
What can I expect during a visit with my Oral Surgeon?
It is expected that patients will undergo a consultation and assessment in advance of undertaking any surgical treatment. Careful planning and discussion is the key predictor of success and Dr. O’Neill will discuss treatment options, risk factors and costs as part of an open and friendly communication style. Where indicated, it may be advised to take a CBCT ( 3-D imaging ) of various anatomical structures of the head and jaw to allow for accurate and detailed planning, improved outcomes and reduced risks.
All surgical procedures are painless, with Dr. O’Neill offering multiple pathways to managing comfort and anxiety, including, Local anaesthetic, IV sedation and General anaesthetic, where indicated. Surgical appointments are booked and Dr O’Neill will prepare a treatment plan. She works closely with all insurance companies.
